Rylan Connor Mirts Red Oak, Lowa-Death, Obituary: Rylan Mirts, 17, Passionate FFA Leader and Family Devotee Has Passed Away

Rylan Connor Mirts, 17, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Born on January 30, 2009, in Omaha, Rylan was the beloved son of Kaleb and Heather (Ballinger) Mirts. He grew up in Red Oak and was a junior at Red Oak Community High School, where he built strong friendships and left a lasting impression on classmates and teachers alike.

During his earlier school years, Rylan participated in wrestling, demonstrating determination and resilience. More recently, he was deeply involved in the National FFA Organization, where he served as treasurer. Through FFA, he developed leadership skills and a strong appreciation for agriculture and community service.

Rylan was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand. He was a talented mechanic who worked alongside his father in the family business, gaining hands-on experience and pride in his craft. He also spent time assisting his grandfather, Kevin, with livestock and worked for Joe Lydon in the seed business. No matter the task, Rylan approached it with dedication and a positive attitude.

Outside of work and school, Rylan had many passions. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, showcasing his truck at local truck shows, and capturing moments through photography. He was also active on TikTok, where he shared his humor and personality with others. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his younger sister, Bristol. Rylan was her biggest supporter, faithfully attending her dance activities and cheering her on every step of the way.

He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, kind heart, and fun-loving spirit that brought joy to everyone around him.

Rylan was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gail Mirts, and great-grandmother, Phyllis Norris. He is survived by his parents, Kaleb and Heather Mirts of Red Oak; his brothers, Kyler and Blayke Mirts; and his sister, Bristol Mirts. He is also survived by his grandparents, Kevin Mirts and Alicia Royer of Red Oak; Ron and Denise Ballinger of Stanton; and Brenda and Terry Vanderpool of Red Oak; along with great-grandparents, Gene and Beverly Mirts of Red Oak, and Ron and Barb Ballinger of Corning. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at LeRette Funeral Chapel, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
