It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and cherished member, John Copley. John was far more than a regular presence at the club; he was a cornerstone of our community, a man whose warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Week after week, John’s familiar and welcoming presence brought a sense of continuity and comfort to the club. Friday evenings were never complete without him—settled in with his tea, often accompanied by his favored rum and Pep or a Baileys, sharing stories and laughter. His arrival at training was always eagerly anticipated, not least because of his legendary homemade chicken and ham pie, followed by apple crumble—simple gestures that spoke volumes about his kindness and thoughtfulness.
Saturdays saw John in his usual place, supporting the team with quiet pride, enjoying the cricket and his customary bowl of fruit alongside his tea. Come Sunday mornings, he was there once again, a steadfast supporter of the juniors, bacon sandwich in hand, offering encouragement and embodying the spirit of the club in its purest form.
John’s legacy, however, extends far beyond these treasured moments. His tireless efforts and practical contributions have shaped the very foundations of our club. From helping to construct the clubhouse and tractor shed to lending his time and skills to countless other projects, John’s commitment has left an indelible mark. The club we know today stands as a testament to his hard work, vision, and selflessness.
Above all, John will be remembered as a truly good man—reliable, generous, and deeply valued. His absence will be felt profoundly, but his memory will continue to inspire us all.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Richard, Helen, and their families during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we share in your loss.
Rest in peace, John. Your legacy lives on in all of us.
